A museum came to us with a request for a custom solution that would play an audio track when someone entered a room, or came within range of a particular item in the room. The solution we proposed was the Motion-Activated Audio Player.
How does the Motion-Activated Audio Player Work?
An audio file is stored on a removable micro SD card and an infrared motion sensor is used to detect motion. When motion is detected, an integrated MP3 player begins to play the audio file from the micro SD card and plays for two minutes. After that time, it checks for motion and if there is still motion in the area, the audio track continues to play. If no motion is detected, the audio file fades out and stops playing. The next time motion is detected, the audio fades up and the files starts playing again. When the player reaches the end of the audio file, it starts playing again from the beginning.
Power Supply
The device is powered by a 9 volt power supply and outputs the audio to powered speakers.
Supported Audio File Formats
Audio files can be in WAV, or MP3 format.
Customization
The exact behaviour of the device can be customized to play for different durations and the motion detector's sensitivity can be adjusted. The default configuration plays a single audio track but can be customized to play multiple tracks of music or other audio.
